Since I was in elementary school, I have loved weather. Everything about it. I've studied it, I've played with it, I've all but mastered it. I watched the 1996 Twister so much, that I could quote the entire movie. So, when I heard there was a movie called Twisters coming out??? You'd be psycho for thinking I wouldn't be first in line. And of course I was, I went opening night.
This movie is a tear-jerker. From the opening scene to the very end, you do not get a break. And I love it. It feels very much like the 1996 movie. Yes, this new one takes a few of the things I love from the first, but I love it. This is a new generation of weather lovers and movie-goers, and plus, this movie is not a sequel. We do not follow ANY of the same characters of the first. Truly, the only thing that ties it to the first is the continuation of the Dorothy sensors. So, of course, you have your "characters loved one in immediate danger of a tornado and that shapes their character" and "late night tornado that can only be seen when lightning strikes." But, I can't say too much about that last trope because that is reality. If you don't have a warning, you will only see the storm when the lightning flashes. But. I. Love it.
1996 technology could only take us so far back then. Hell, the tornado sounds were just people growling into a microphone, but this? This is top-tier. And I could be biased, yea, sure, whatever. But, the plot, the characters, the way they blended the modern-day technology with this story. This is an amazing movie. I couldn't have asked for more.
The twist at the end, the whole motive for wanting to chase in the first place and even the focus on the people. Oh my God, this movie was so focused on the people versus the science. I loved it. You felt for everyone involved. That's the thing; storm chasing is NOT fun. It's a necessity to learn about this phenomenon that hurts people. And this movie knew that. I wouldn't expect any less from THEE Steven Spielberg.
9.5/10 - I only docked a half- point for hanging around the same bush as the 1996 movie (as I stated before).
Also, as I'm writing this, a huge lightning storm is just to the West of me and the wind is picking up and my weather loving brain is just a peak arousal LMAO
