I was incensed by a review that cannot pass without comment. Weekend Breakfast is either 4 hours (Sat) or 3 hours (Sun) ..... it is not commercial TV where half of this time would be filled with ad breaks (and giving the presenters a break!). The News is not "leftovers" .....in fact it's news as it happens ( ...the Gaza War!), and the repeats are for people just tuning in .... obviously! As for describing Fauziah (not Fazoulah!) and Kathryn (not Katherine!) as "apaling"(sic), deadly boring two droll housewives" .....what appalling (correct spelling), sexist, derogatory language for two very experienced and highly professional women. Their anchoring a national breakfast program stamps them as hardly "droll housewives"! They are both extremely intelligent and capable presenters and journalists. Fauziah has made some mistakes (haven't we all!) but she is a very accomplished presenter. And Kathryn provides provides much of the program's momentum and fun with her bright, engaging banter. She is certainly one of the ABC's best and most versatile presenters with a bubbly personality to match (certainly not a "personality void"). If the daily weekday "News Breakfast" program was based in Sydney instead of Melbourne, there is no doubt that she would be first choice as the female host. Remember, Weekend Breakfast is not just a news show .... it's also meant to be entertaining. And they have few resources ....a continuous show with only a sports commentator to break up the segments. As for "These two know nothing and would be totally lost without scripted content" .....how do you think any news presenter would cope with incredibly diverse news items and coherent commentary without a script? I find their delivery and interactions well-paced and interesting ....they have developed an excellent rapport. Kathryn is probably the glue ....if you watch her work with others she has the ability to bring the best out of her co-hosts. Weekend Breakfast under Fauziah and Kathryn is engaging, entertaining and witty, but it can also be empathetic and demonstrate suitable gravitas when warranted. Highly recommended!
