The premise is totally implausible and some of the actions by the main character are just nonsense. Numerous instances where you shout at the telly saying "come on, that's just laughable". I think I could have written a better script.

Basically a poor man's The Name of the Rose. Good cast stuck with mumbling dialogue, dodgy accents and some very darkly lit sets. Amazing how convenient it was that the detective seemed to live so close to the academy and was able to pop in to see Robert Duvall's character for some background info on the occult. Devoid of some real tension, excitement and drama.

In my humble opinion, this is a good film, not a great one. I got a real sense of having seen the story played out before in Gallipoli and Saving Private Ryan, both of which I would rate as more meaningful films and better depictions of the horrors of war. I just felt there was something missing throughout. Why send just 2 men to save 1600? The german sniper on the bridge has about 5 shots and misses every time as do the others. He falls in the river and miraculously gets out at the right spot. I just think it lacked real tension and the story didn't suck me as much as I thought it would.
