Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion offers a bold fusion of country and pop, presenting a collection of songs that embody both his reverence for country music and his unique cross-genre sensibilities. This album, divided into two discs, explores various aspects of contemporary and traditional country with an eclectic array of collaborations and storytelling.
On the first disc, collaborations take center stage, with tracks like "Finer Things" featuring Hank Williams Jr. bringing a mix of braggadocio and country fun, while "I Had Some Help" with Morgan Wallen stands out as a summer anthem with a pure pop-country vibe. Unfortunately, some duets feel more like filler, such as "Losers" with Jelly Roll, which lacks depth despite being catchy. Notably, tracks like "Have the Heart" with Dolly Parton suffer from technical issues, undermining what could have been stronger songs.
The second disc, F-1 Trillion: Long Bed, feels more cohesive and authentic, where Post Malone begins to own his country persona. The songs here, like "Two Hearts," dig deeper emotionally and showcase his ability to blend 90s country sound with his signature introspective style. This half of the album shines with more storytelling depth, enhanced by solid instrumentation like fiddle and steel guitar, reflecting a clearer vision of "Country Post" beyond his earlier hip-hop roots.
Though F-1 Trillion is not without its inconsistencies, its vibrant collaborations, diverse production, and Post's evolving country style make it a noteworthy entry into the genre, if not a flawless one. Fans of both country and Post Malone will find something to enjoy, though traditionalists may question the overall cohesion of the album.
I won't mind listening to it several times though so I'll say it was a great body of work from Mr. Posty
