Like a lot of u folks I’ve never written or had time to write a review before but today I’ve had to make an exception. Going into this movie I had mid to high expectations. With the talented cast and the prior success of the hunger games franchise you would expect this movie to be decent if not better. However, like many people I was incredibly disappointed. I love movies and I can proudly say that I’ve never left the cinema halfway through a showing. Sadly I can say that no more. If I was to guess I think I left after an hour. Now folks, I’ve watched a lot movies In my time and I know that the first 30 mins to an hour can make or break a movie. This film has the most boring, uninteresting and predictable introduction I’ve ever watched. You could see what they were trying to do with this and there definitely was potential but the path they decided to go down was just not it. For a start the pacing was terrible , One minute snow is meeting the girl, the next minute snow is in love with the girl, the next minute the arena gets bombmed half the tributes are dead and snow is almost killed. I mean what dum dum thought this would be enjoyable. I’ve got so many questions as well. What was the point of the young snow war scene, who was the rebel group who bombed the arena?, how did some of the tributes escape when they were literally in the Center of panam? ,why did the games go ahead when the arena was literally destroyed? ,what was the point of the donations?, why did that woman just decide to decapitate that poor guy with the axe when he was tied at a height, half conscious and battered up when they could’ve worked together, why were there random holes and tunnels under the arena, why did snow Randomly decide to give the girl that poison, why was the girl not searched and how was the poison not found on her I mean I could go on and on. I would just really like to sit down with the director and have him talk me through want he was trying to accomplish in this film. What kind of angers me is that this film was supposed to give the original hunger games movies a strong foundation and backstory but instead it makes it really confusing and disjointed especially in the rise and fall of snow. Apart from the good performances by petter dinkledge and viola David. Snows actor is just weak and the girls character and accent is just annoying and to lovey dovey. If you have read this far thanks. This is my first review and I probably sound really harsh. I’m just speaking my mind to be honest. Anyway I would strongly advise you to give this film a miss. 2/10 1/5.
