Pretty mid movie to be honest. Like any quintessential horror movie it had decent jump scares, a healthily disturbing amount of gore and blood, and the classic modern day Stranger Things looking CGI demon/monster. So if you're looking for a 2 hour long show of amped up gore and scares, it's a good watch. But if you care at all about a complete story or an interesting plot (or a plot that doesn't seem incomplete at least), then this movie isn't for you. Plot: 3/10 Scares: 7.5/10 Acting: 5/10

To keep this short. The movie was nice, great acting, decent pacing, a good amount of jump scares and other classical horror movie-esque scenes. However, the ending was ridiculously stupid. It was major let down in my opinion and just seemed like lazy writing (maybe the films low budget was part of the reason). Overall, decently good watch until the last 10 minutes which simply leave you disappointed. If you're looking for insomnia inducing scary movie, this is definitely NOT it.

The acting by Cristina Rodlo as the main character is amazing however I think that's the only good thing about this movie. Making use of typical dark lighting + shadows + jump scares in different places, this movie doesn't do a particularly good job is getting the adrenaline rushing. Some movies can get away with the classically boring jump scares by having a good plot or an unexpected twist. This movie lacked the former, and the only twist towards the end was one for the worse. Overall, wouldn't recommend it. *SPOILER ALERT*: Similar to The Ritual (same producers) the movies main antagonist, the big scary monster, was incredibly disappointing in it's appearance. The climax of the movie was beyond ridiculous as it implies that Amber was the first woman in dozens to find the strength to break free from this monster's trance (which didn't seem too hard to do honestly). Other weird things: why would she grab that sword of all things at the end and how does she kill Beck (a mountain of a man) with a fractured Tibia holding that heavy sword, what was the point of the butterflies/moths.

This movie was one of the best horror movie's I've seen in a while (and I've seen a lot of em). The acting by Rebecca (Beth) was amazing and added depth to both the horror scenes and just normal mundane ones. Her personality was really relatable and lovable, and her reaction to what she was going through was realistic and touching. This movie makes use of brilliant shadow-allignment jump scares which are northing short of cinematographic brilliance. The movie also perfectly balances out psychological thrill with the whole supernatural realm. It's just ghosty enough to be believable which is something most movies struggle to acheive. All in all, brilliant acting, captivating plot, no gaping plot holes, unique jump scares and overall a great horror movie. 10/10 would recommend.

Amazingly, this low budget movie managed to combine a good plot, realistic acting and a good balance between supernatural-ghosty stuff and good old fashioned gore through is torture scenes. Ange, the protagonist, shows a relatively realistic depiction of how people would react in such horror movie settings. The right amount of curiosity, with some good calm, the occasional fainting after seeing a ghost, an overall insensitivity to this stuff after her mother's experiences. Overall she's a brilliant character. I love watching horror movies, both psychological and supernatural. I think this movie brilliantly combines both these types into a nice concise plot. *SPOILER ALERT*: I liked the movie because it makes use of all the classic stuff I love about horror movies. Having a jerk (Jackson), having an incredibly dumb side character who has no idea how to fight or handle confrontations (Eliot), a creepy old woman who we all knew was evil the moment we saw her (Mrs Green), scary ghost children. RIP to the gardener who overall seemed like a lad. And poor old Beth got screwed over first even though she barely said anything throughout the movie.

The movie itself has a pretty good plot and manages to avoid quite a few horror movie cliches. Some classic stuff like venturing out into the darkness alone without any concern for all the shady stuff happening around you is a prevalent feature of this movie. Did have a few problems though, the ending was extremely underwhelming. It's the classic, white protagonist comes and miraculously survives was hundreds of people haven't survived before him for centuries. A few weird cinematographic mistakes (!!!with some indirect spoilers!!!). Luke's supernatural and invincible thumb. The magical Ax which is a weapon of the gods. Luke's bones which impervious to all falls and injury. Dom's minsicus which is made of cheap quality taffy. And of course, the character in the middle of a forest in a non English speaking country that somehow speaks English so that our protagonist knows what's up. Overall, it's a good movie. Scary, not to much. But a good way to pass time I guess.
