This movie wrongly evokes the idea that Puerto Rican’s living in America in the 1970s where not subjected to racism. That in itself is a racist concept given that a large percentage of Puerto Rican migrants to New York City where the storyline of the movie is based at, since the late 19th century are black. The cultural, intellectual and political leadership of the Puerto Rican community in the city has historically been Afrodescendant. This movie is not only inaccurately portraying Puerto Rican’s to have not been subjected to racism in the 1970s but it is also dismissing the events of it, that took place leading to The Puerto Rican liberation movement of the 1960s-70s in the United States; were Puerto Rican’s fought US white racism against Puerto Rican’s.
