The majority of reviewers and viewers seem to be afraid to call out this movie for what it is - a meshing of several all-too familiar tropes (which often lifts its imagery and ideas from the TV show, 'The Walking Dead'), culminating in a progression and climax that are, predictably, set in stone from the moment these anti-Griswolds set-off on the road-trip to their version of Walley World. Indeed the only aspect of the 'Civil War' story arc that is an unknown is whether or not Sparky Griswold will survive; the fate of Ellen, Rusty, and Audrey being in keeping with Hollywood-cinema tradition.
'Civil War' presents nothing that is new or subversive in either scripting or mise-en-scene.
