Ebert is much too generous with his four stars here. The movie misses on what can be labeled Aristotle's second requirement--though perhaps A. lays it down only for tragedies. A. says, if the audience's sympathies are not somehow engaged by the protagonist, it doesn't matter much what happens in the course of the play. Whatever happens isn't going to mean much. A. is very smart. Ebert is very kind.
