Id say 3.5, so i rounded up. There are many, many worse movies out there that have fewer and less important pros.
Pros: beautiful cinematography. Vivid world building. Actually picking up right where the last movie left off. Good acting, considering faulted script. Kudos to containing an extended fight scene that I could actually watch.
Cons: TERRIBLY cliched. Poor narrative and screen writing. Unbelievable timeline (we normally do this in a few months, but well do it in 5 days and also be trained as warriors in that same amount of time) and the all too convenient scene cuts that one can only assume was to build suspense but just become hilarious (the bad guys can get to the planet in 5 days, but it takes them 20 minutes to aim). Deaths that seemed to happen for very minor reasons, while virtually nothing happened to main characters experiencing the same. Everything was too convenient, and I dont believe that with the relative ease of which a ridiculous and over powering amount of bad guys were thwarted that they are capable of ruling their universe.
I laughed out loud when i saw the hover cart used for the harvest being manually pulled by an animal. They have hover technology, yet that cart is being pulled by an animal and they are harvesting with scythes. Honestly grateful for that early scene, because it really checked my expectations for the movie…. There was going to be a bunch of nonsensical technology and the narrative details weren't going to make much sense either, but the ride was at least going to be a rich visual experience.
If there is a third movie, i’d watch it. This isn’t a series I’ll be engaging with for its narrative, but the world build is immersive and I think thats enough for me.
