One of the worst NBA2K games in recent memory. The game isn’t cohesive and doesn’t feel like I’m in control of my player. I usually give games a while to work the bugs out but it feels like this product was rushed. It seems to me 2K has gone the way of EA Sports, in which they are perfectly content releasing a subpar product because gamers don’t have a choice but to buy it if they want this genre of a game. While the online play may be thriving, there is a contingent of players out here who just want to play the game as a basketball simulation. There have been almost NO changes made to the game in the franchise modes from last year, other than a few platform things. Everything is literally the same. The game hasn’t even released an update for the Lakers sponsor on their uniform yet. Perhaps they are waiting on the unveiling of the alternate uniforms but I’m confused as to why the season has started and we don’t know what those are yet. My biggest disappointment is the shot meter. This is the worst meter on any game I’ve ever played. I’ve been playing basketball games with similar mechanics since NBA Live came out in 1995. Honestly I’ve been playing games long before that—but I’ll limit it to familiar mechanics to be fair. Try as I might, I cannot get the hang of this new shot meter. I have my 3 pointers on 90 percent at this point and still can barely make a shot. I’ve never had to do that. Free throws are just as bad. It’s also hard to find a realistic configuration with the sliders. I feel like I have had to give myself a significant advantage in the sliders to give any some realistic play. For some reason the computer can shoot 3s whenever it is convenient with whoever it wants but the game is perfectly content with letting me go 3 for 20. That doesn’t even make sense. I wish I could return this just on the grounds that it’s not good and incomplete, but I know that won’t fly. If you like playing online you will probably be ok with this game since they’ve added all kinds of new stuff to that part of the game. But the franchise mode is a massive disappointment and is frustrating to play. I would suggest keeping the game from last year and finding an updated roster. This is another instance of a gaming company giving you what they want you to have but not really what you actually want.
