Timeless, no pun intended. Better than Stanley Kubrick”s 2001. Like 2001, ahead of its time. Hans Zimmer score is amazing and essential. In 2023 climate issues seem to make the premise more realistic than the stronger financially backed climate denial during its release. Great cast, great writing, great timing. It will always be a difficult film to completely comprehend. It’s underpinning of the human desire for survival and ingenuity carries a great message of hope. After the 2020 election fiasco, it’s easy to see the rewriting of history books mentioned in the movie now taking place in much of the United States. History can be about the truth and offer more than one viewpoint. As a famous writer said recently, “Adults can hold more than one thought, children cannot.” This movie demonstrated that behavior driven by fear for survival in many ways that was very thought provoking. We could all benefit from a leap of faith, trust in the science, question authority, understand human strengths and weaknesses, trying to see the best with hope rather than stopping with failure.
