the story of the book is pretty significant because it explained important religious matters and studied the influence of religion on the human mentality. it was a sort of catharsis for the author through which he released his doubts and confusions about the purpose of religion and how people are exploited by the godly devils. but at the other side I believe the author failed to thrill the reader and keep him/her on the excitement track during the course of reading. some times I felt that this book is not written by Stephen King (nothing personal just a feeling) because it did not convey the "Kingian thrilling factor" that a reader would experience with books like the outsider (although the story of the present book we are discussing embody much significance than the outsider which is frankly a mere glass of water in the desert).
