I loved the seemingly realistic look at van life but I felt a bit too manipulated into believing that this is ultimately a bad way to live, despite Fern clearly choosing this lifestyle over other options. I'd have given it five stars if I hadn't felt behind the scenes judgement/pity in the presentation. Really lovely story and cinematography, though.

A beautiful and well cast, but soulless adventure. Somehow we manage to get less character development and less story in this series than in the original miniseries, which had less time to tell that story. I appreciate the effort that went in to making this a far less hokey adaptation, but I would gladly trade the fabulous sets and great acting in this for the more linear storyline and depth of empathy we feel for these survivors from the 1994 version. It definitely captures the atmosphere of the novel while abandoning what makes that novel so special - the characters.
