“american psychological horror film” … NO! i’m not paying attention to another movie trailer claiming to be a horror movie. 95% duplex (drew barrymore comedy) 5% deliverance lordt. feel like they were trying to make a comedy, saw it wasn’t hitting the mark, then said let’s just make it seem a bit more sinister add some typical horror movie scores and call it horror. at least the ending was satisfying, only time i smiled/chuckled through the entire movie. and brandy looks good, aging like fine wine.

movie was so wild. james mcavoy was spectacular and someone should probably check on him cause he’s playing these crazy characters too damn well. the buildup to the horror aspect of the movie was so well done. storytelling and building up tension and you progressively see how mcavoys character is starting to crash out. some humorous moments, dark humor. had some edge of your seat moments, like my heart rate was up there 😂. loved the ending. made the guy behind me laugh cause i had one of those yell at the screen moment. that “fuckin right” was very warranted. there were a lot of stupid decisions made and the husband ben 🤦🏾‍♀️ weak af which annoyed me but not enough to make it a bad watch.

lacked a story - it’s not really clear, imo, what’s going on or why it’s happening. there are seeds planted here and there to keep us guessing, but nothing is expounded on to create a solid story. the ending also fell flat. the acting was on point. idk the actors who played her sons, but they did an incredible job. of course halle did great, i’ve been waiting for her to come back to horror since gothika dropped. the atmosphere of the movie was on point. very moody and tense. were some jump scares. visuals were solid. the creatures were creaturing, although i wish there were more.
