The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novel that demonstrates a society created by animals that eventually mirrors a human society also bringing attention to the flaws and shortcomings of it. It effectively shows how evil our society can be on a much more comprehensible level that makes our flaws recognizable. The pigs are meant to represent the high-class society and leaders of the world who live in luxury, while the other animals work tirelessly everyday and are fed less than the pigs who don't participate in manual labor.
A character that stood out to me was Squealer, a pig with the talent to convince anyone. He is written to imitate the news and media that controls our knowledge of events and the world. An example of this is when Orwell describes Squealer convincing the other animals that Boxer is not being sent off to the slaughter house despite the writing on the cart saying so, he claims that he is being sent to a veterinarian. While it is specifically said at the end of the book how the pigs resemble humans to the highest degree, I believe that the other animals also resemble less fortunate humans substantially.
The pigs are no more evil than the humans in power today who are always judging, lying, convincing, controlling, creating, representing this in a way that mimics a government.
When I finished reading the book I felt like I could interpret the true meaning behind its words well. In conclusion, Animal Farm is a book that highlights the flaws in today's society, our behavior, and our system of reason.
