The visuals were fantastic. This remake was a major missed opportunity though. The realism of the movie took away from the heart and emotion of the original Lion King. The voice acting was okay at best. When James Earl Jones reprised his role, I was expecting the same amount of emotion as his original performance in Lion King 1994, but it somehow was worse and had nowhere near the connection that audiences feel in the original Lion King. The music was hardly upgraded to add that extra oomph that many of the Disney remakes have. The movie doesn’t stand out on its own. The singing was over done and too pop for it to stand out with the other Disney songs. Even the remakes of Aladdin and The Jungle Book stood out on their own, but not the Lion King remake. Some scenes were incredible to see redone, but overall, the movie is very underwhelming and I was very disappointed, especially since I’m a big fan of Jon Favreau and his work as an actor, producer, writer, and director.
