Very moody and authentic. Emotions both intense but subdued between characters, just as I imagine they would have been in the day. Costumes and dialogue both superb not to mention the music. Bravo.

Sorry everyone, although the first half of the movie could have been a 4 , it just didn’t know when to end . Even watching it in two sessions I had to give up with 21 minutes to go. Any scene in the last hour could have been a plausible conclusion, what ever point the movie was trying to make had been made already. Less is more, and in the case of this movie, doubly so.

With two episodes still to go I honestly don’t think I can be bothered. The trouble is that if you stretch a theme too far it will break, and with two episodes to go that is exactly what has happened. The same scenario is being played out over and over again and I just wish the story would come to some bloody conclusion, but by now I just don’t care. Less would definitely have been more. This is fiction, and unlike truth, it has to make sense.

As for the reviewer who thought this was part comedy and part drama I have to tell you there was nothing funny about it, nor was it intended to be. A brilliant script that strips bare the human condition through the process of clear thinking, something most of us rarely do . Not easy viewing but entertaining, often for the wrong reasons. Fabulously strong cast and four well paced episodes.

What a shambles. Is this meant to be drama, comedy or farce ? Possibly all three. I’ll choose to watch anything British just because it’s British, but this show is the exception to the rule. There is not a sympathetic character amongst a cast of thousands, so I was left not caring what happened to any of them . The plot is convoluted just for the sake of it and here I must confess I gave up half way through episode seven. Netflix is saturated with crime drama, how about they try something different for a while.

This movie is my vice. Something indulgent and probably not entirely legal . Racist, sexist, violent , and it shouldn’t be funny but it is. If contraband could be a movie this is it. Brilliant dialogue and editing, as well as strong characters, reminiscent of Pulp Fiction in many ways. Does it have a point, I’m not entirely sure, but it is certainly entertaining, and any movie should be that at least. I feel guilty for enjoying it, but then that is the very definition of vice.

Despite great production and acting, each plot twist was more ludicrous than the previous one.

Beyond criticism, to find flaws is mere pedantry.

Doesn’t even get close to portraying the true horrors of this or any other war. Our hero appears to leave with only a scar from a bullet and even less mental trauma. Without a sense of the obscenity of this campaign, why bother making a movie about it.
