This movie is definitely one of my favorites. It’s heart-wrenching and the characters are unique, lovable, and realistic. I appreciate the way that, although the main characters are all male, the movie doesn’t make them overly masculine and afraid to show their feelings. That’s part of what makes this an excellent movie. Dead poets society is raw and real. I love it so much, but I really wish the movie was fairer to Chris. The way that Knox forces his affection on her is too much. He supposedly loves her, but he hardly knows her. It’s more like infatuation. I feel like Knox overlooks her feelings in many situations, and I understand that the main characters, including him, all attend a male’s boarding school and don’t have much opportunity to be around women, but it was not okay for Knox to act how he did with Chris at her boyfriend’s party. No movie is without flaws, however, and I feel like this one is supposed to be about the relationships between the boys and their fathers and Mr Keating, and the ways the students grow. The romance may be clumsily handled, but it is not a romance movie. It’s a beautiful, tragic, slice-of-life taking place in the late 50s. I highly recommend it.
