A compelling moving film which flips back from present day to the French heroine's childhood. Spoilers . . . . The protagonist an immigrant from Denmark meets and has a relationship with the heroine. He goes to war , the township near their home is run by a corrupt mayor and his corrupt Banker partner. The mayor essentially covers up for his violent misogynistic son who rapes the heroine, who bears his son . He indirectly kills her and the protagonist with the child hunts him down and deals with him.
