Amitav Ghosh's new novel seems strangely forced and lacks compactness. The depiction of personal relationships seems immature and the narration at times reminds one of children's fiction. The author has attempted an answer to his perennial concern about the lack of fiction on the theme of climate change which was celebrated in his work "The Great Derangement ". However, what resulted was an undesirable overdose of climate horror instances that unfortunately did not give the desired effect of startling the reader into climate action. The pattern of narration lacked the density and appeal that is usually seen in Ghosh's works.
