I am such a fan of the people who made this movie and I was excited by the premise, but IF has trouble building to something and then giving you the goods. The jokes didn't hit for me and there should have been either a lot more of them... or a lot fewer. IF does have its powerful moments, I teared up at Fiona Shaw's dancing scene and again at the reveal at the end. There was also a quick shout out to Calvin and Hobbs, an indication of where the soul of the film wanted to be.
If the intent was to make something that brought us closer to an essential truth about childhood and loss, it didn't get there, or at least not long enough. If the goal was to awaken our inner child, IF teased but never truly delivered. I was so rooting for it.
