If you loved the original, don't watch this one. I can see how it could be good if you went in blind and had no expectations. I can recite the Little Mermaid original version almost word for word so I knew every funny comment that was unnecessarily missing. It's not like these were un-PC comments back in 1989.
I can deal with the wokeness and the different casting of characters. I can even deal with fake red dreadlocks or whatever they were trying to be on a Latino Ariel. What I can't deal with is the horrible casting followed by worse acting, terrible voice-overs of Sebastian, and unnecessary plot changes that don't add to the story at all. Giving the Eric a black mom, and a dad? An adopted King? Why? He was an orphan. Why wasn't Grimsby cast as a bean pole, and what happened to the whole dedication of the statue? The statue is in the movie but it was never presented to Eric before the storm, so you don't really know why it exists. If you loved the old Sebastian, you will hate this one. Literally all of the really cute lines were deleted for no reason at all. Why did they have to remove Le Poisson (no Louie and his burning mustache?) Why no sister song at the beginning? Scuttle cast as a girl, and no longer a seagull? The horse was very cool so I had to look up what breed it was. A Friesian, of course. Swapped a white horse for a black horse. I can agree with that one because I don't believe Friesians are white and the horse was amazing. Perhaps the best actor and the best casting of the entire movie.
If you're a serious fan of the first one, as I am, don't waste your time, money, or thoughts watching this one. I wish I had not.
