Another movie to show and reflect some of our cultural biases about beauty and how we are harming ourselves.
The premise is that Demi Moore was the Aphrodite of her time , which she really was.
The problem is sheโs 50 now and though she looks great and physically is active. Itโs just not good enough in the culture.
Dennis Quaid plays the cultural avatar that is consuming and transacting in the business of beauty and desire. He acts disgusting in every way. He is controlling beauty yet he exudes ugliness in his Constantly consuming manner.
Demi Moore strikes a deal with some sort of devil Her trust is given completely of her body her life for the possibility of a dream of beauty she wants to recapture. More importantly, the feeling of being who she thinks she is, which is beautiful and accepted and Loved.
She quickly learns that when we donโt love ourselves completely as we are, and we put conditions on ourselves for that self love acceptance or and others to accept us ;danger approaches.
The deal to obtain what sheโs seeking takes more and more from her. Itโs not linear itโs exponential. Itโs the horror. Itโs the ugliness itโs the darkness. A complete loss of self and a nihilistic trajectory This is a horror film and the horror is provided.
The movie seems to pay homage or get inspiration from a bunch of horror movies like the shining, evil, dead, altered states, the thing..
The director does a great job of moving us through the journey with carefully thought out imagery.
Overall, I like the movie I like Demi Moore I like the examination of what we do with beauty in our culture and how we are destroying our souls.
The culture is not our friend.
