The McQuarries is well researched, and the passion of the author is apparent for this family history. For me, it was a real eye opener to the colonial history of New Zealand, similar to colonial Sydney and other Australian cities.
The plot builds around Harry, the main character, so you are left with an expectation to find out what happens in the next book.
