Many people, here included, want to pretend. When the band ended, Levon and several of the others were in bad shape. Robbie was tired of it, and was able to move on. The others wanted to keep at it. He thought he had better options. If in fact he was not so important to the band, where was their later success? Where were the great original songs? There was none. Don't blame the survivor for the troubles of those left behind. It has to be stated clearly: Robbie wrote most of the songs. He did not sing them and this confuses many, but he wrote them. After he left the band, others in the band wanted to sell their future royalties. They wanted the cash, for obvious reasons. If he hadn't bought them, someone else would have. Don't blame him for being sober and a survivor. Years later, Levon was resentful. Like a lot of rock and rollers, life after the limelight was tough. I get it, but this doesn't change the reality of what went down. Robbie has a right to be proud of his story and his accomplishments, and the great music.
