as someone who is heavily influenced by korean culture (and have watched countless different dramas and shows), my standards for romance dramas are quite high and i just want to say that ashes of love is definitely my favourite chinese top 3 shows. i watched this show at first because of 邓伦,, i was a big fan of him lol,, i also wanted to move on from the untamed 陈情令 because that was such a good show too (that no one can miss out on). go and watch these 2 dramas because they are SO good i'm not joking!! ashes of love is like most of the chinese dramas that i have seen before. it can get quite confusing if you don't look out for every single detail. it could be the director's intentions (not too sure), but it is overall well explained. it basically shows what love is and how love and power can change people. almost all the characters' backstory is explained and it shows the progression of the character's personality and choices. i obviously ship 火神 and 水神 (previously the new 花神), but i could really understand the feelings of 夜神, and why he became so obsessed with revenge and keeping 锦觅 by his side. this drama does not simply just show two people deeply in love get together, but it shows how much the two people are willing to give up just to see each other despite facing challenges. i don't have a strong memory so i can't recall the entire plot, but this show really brought out my emotions (i actually cried out of shock when 锦觅 killed 旭风) and i couldn't move on from this show for so long, even longer than the untamed. in conclusion, i really recommend 香蜜沉沉烬如霜!!
