Trap, the latest movie from director Manoj N Shyamalan, is about a sociopathic serial killer who is attending a musical concert with his daughter, unaware of the fact that the entire concert is arranged by the FBI & the Philadelphia police 🚨, to nab him. While in reality such attempts by authorities have conspicuously been attempted back in the last century, the modern day audience might find this plot premise pretty preposterous, considering the risk involved in today's AI assisted world we are living in.
That apart, what Shyamalan has also attempted ( and largely succeeded in his attempt as well) is to garner empathy for his central character. The character has been so beautifully written that each time he attempts to escape from the concert with his daughter, you seriously would want the father in him to escape from the Trap with his daughter, for reasons that would be later revealed once the story moves out of the concert arena and shifts to his living room where you'd get to know that he's been a great dad to his 2 children & also been a loveable husband as well. The strength lies in Shyamalan's immaculate writing of the central character who has been flawless in his efforts in keeping his sociopathic condition away from his family life.
Add to that the old school styled camera angles & the frames used to deliver you a movie experience of the 90s, Trap is a perfect gift from Shyamalan to his most ardent fans.
