John Wyer, not Carroll Shelby modified two older British built GT Mark Is to win the Le Mans in 1968 and 1969.
Furthermore, the movie's 1966 Ford Mark IIs' body/chassis were British built; the 1967 Ford Mark IV was American built a year later.
The number 29 red Ferrari that crashes in the race actually beat 10 of 13 Ford GTs at Le Mans in 1966 to win the GT class.
During the 1966 Daytona 24 hours Ken Miles won by 8 laps, the movie is completely wrong.
During the 1959 Le Mans Carroll Shelby did not cross the finish line it was Roy Salvadori who drove most of the race to gain the lead to win, while Shelby only drove a little being sick.
Of the two best factory Ferrari drivers Scarfiotti was far better having won the 1963 Le Mans 24 hours, 1963 Sebring 12 hours, 1964 Monza, 1965 Nurburgring, 1965 European Hillclimb Championship and the 1966 Spa. He helped Ferrari to win the World Sports Car Makes Championship in these years from 1963-1965.
Ken Miles was actually 4 laps ahead of the second place black #2 Ford GT driven by Bruce McLaren when he (Miles) was ordered by Carroll Shelby, Henry Ford II and Leo Beebe to slow down and allow this other Ford GT to catch up with him (Miles) to be on the same lap; thus costing Ken Miles from winning the 1966 Le Mans and the triple crown ever. It was also because the ACO ruled that Ken Miles' race car traveled 20 meters less in distance than Bruce McLaren's race car from where they first started. Even without this ruling Ken Miles knew he lost at the finish line because Bruce McLaren gunned his car to cross first over the line. Ken Miles was actually robbed from a team driver, team manager, corporate executive and Ford's owner.
This order from these three to Ken Miles was not just for a photo finish which they could have still done with Miles remaining 3 to 4 laps in the lead it was to have him (Miles) lose because he (Miles) did not fit FORD's corporation image as their race driver boy.
Ken Miles died in the Ford J-Car while testing it on the track, but Carroll Shelby failed to do his job having an degree in Aerodynamics and skipped testing the car in a wind tunnel that was to be done.
I greatly resent that the whole movie portrays Carroll Shelby as a nice guy especially to Ken Miles; "what a joke!"
