In A Violent Nature was an experience. A beautifully shot, intensely gruesome take on the slasher genre.
Many will moan about how slow it is. Or how bad the acting is. Or how there’s no musical score (There is music, but it’s diegetic in scope). Or how nothing really happens etc.
Those people must have not taken the film’s 3rd person premise seriously or forgot about it as soon as they found it out. Likely hoping or thinking that IAVN would be anything other than what it is.
Yes, IAVN is deliberately paced. It was supposed to be since the killer and the landscape are the focus, not the victims.
Yes, the acting is imperfect and cheesy. It was supposed to be by design. Besides, when it comes to slashers bad acting is the default setting anyway. So whining about this is highly hypocritical and annoyingly ironic.
And plenty happens in this film. It just happens at a quiet, leisurely pace. Again…as intended.
So, for these reasons many will complain and be all edgy about IAVN. Maybe James Wan or Blumhouse movies are more their speed.
But for those with imagination who want something different and immersive, who can accept the artful 3rd person perspective of this film. who don’t have social media attention spans that require a jump scare every 7 minutes, and who instead of wanting the next Friday The 13th, can appreciate IAVN for the horror homage to Jason Voorhees that it is…you’re in for a treat.
