What a film! Kept us on the edge of our seats. Spoiler alert: Characterisation was fantastic. Also it’s very very satisfying to see a rich influential loser who doesn’t have conscience get what he deserves - after so much struggle from the victim, one who is not as well off and influential, but with insane strength. The movie had two characters, mother of the rapist & the female lawyer (played by Priyamani) - which made me very agitated (so well written characters): At least in rape cases, I hope women stand up for one another. Seeing another woman try to prove the guilty as innocent she knows that he brutally raped her is so heartbreaking - and the movie showed how they justify it to themselves “anyone someone will be paid money to do this, we are just doing our job as lawyers” - it is still your choice to take the case and make money from it. And also mothers of such sons encourage such behaviour if they dont allow their sons to face the consequences of their own actions, in this case a well-planned raped. Raise sons with the right values, don’t protect them even after such heinous acts.

1) Weak plot of revenge. Very similar so many gangster films yet, the story is not thought through. 2) Did not hate the first half and was wondering why there were such bad reviews but the second half the ending left us feeling like “huhhhh, that’s all?!” There was no point to many things in the film. SPOILER ALERT 3) Kamal never dies despite what happens to him yet others do so easily. And when the sibling scene is shown, viewers arent even left with a complete feeling. As that emotion started, Mani Ratnam killed it. No point. 4) Simbu’s characterisation was so confusing. He seems so loyal until Kamal doubts him. People sow seeds of animosity in him at that time. But, for a guy that loyal, he could have ASKED Kamal. That was not consistent with his character. And, him making a pass at Indrani, esp when he was completely fine with Kamal, did not make sense too - when they said they were like father and son or brothers. 5) The movie alluded towards showing how upbringing of the two siblings cause them to be who they are today - Amara vs Chandra - could have explored that properly. Most scenes that could have been developed and made rich wasn’t. Characterisation wasn’t consistent, it was weak. Also where were those other beautiful songs by AR Rahman like Mutha Mazhai. What a disappointment this film was!
