Rosanne Parry is amazing at capturing, what feels like, an authentic, animal experience. In my opinion, her books are well worth reading.
A word of warning to parents... if you plan on reading this book to your young child, you may want to reconsider. Read ahead and decide if it is material your child is old enough to handle. I made it through A Wolf Called Wander with my five year old (I would skip over some of the more intense parts). He loved it, but it was often a very “dark” way to send my little dude off to sleep.
We started A Whale of the Wild, but I quickly shut it down. The beginning of the story has a couple of very heavy chapters that he’s not ready for. I couldn’t just skip a paragraph or change a word to make it appropriate bedtime material for a five year old. Juvenile fiction often works for my young children, but not in this case.
Wolf and Whale are both great books - educational and exciting. I can’t wait until he’s a bit older so we can enjoy this wonderful story together.
