I loved James Gunnโs The Suicide Squad. I was actually excited for Peacemaker to get his own show, but itโs becoming painful to sit through the poor writing it offers.
The dialogue and quirks expressed in many scenes tries way too hard to make every single character funny. The forced comedy in every single situation creates a thick veil of awkwardness and cringe that taints the story and its action sequences. Peacemaker himself is a funny anti-hero parody and was known for that in The Suicide Squad, but making every character express their own weird and barely humorous antics creates an imbalance that impedes his character from truly flourishing. Even the apartment couple and the cops behave with this copy-and-paste personality. Especially by the third episode, the black lesbian lady seems to be the new main character while Peacemaker is undergoing his โsuperhero moral dilemmaโ cliche. Iโm optimistic for the upcoming episodes to be less one-note.
As for positive things: screenplay and action scenes are enjoyable. James Gunn is definitely responsible for that along with the great soundtrack. Almost makes the show worth a second or third star, but people are already giving the show way too much credit for that and the fact John Cena is the lead role.
