Jersey is an 2019 telugu language sports drama film written and directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, Starring Nani, Shraddha Srinath and Satyaraj in leading roles. Anirudh Ravichander provided the music for the movie.
In a nutshell, the film depicts the journey of a middle aged man who used to play cricket and after a 10 year time span he goes into the game again hoping to make it into the indian national cricket team which was his dream which he couldn't complete 10 years ago.
To be honest I was really excited for this movie since I saw the trailer for the movie because I am a fan of Nani's work, he has shown his versatility in various movies already. Even in this movie he has played 2 totally different phases of life of the same man. A young hot headed cricketer and the a middle aged depreseed man with his life who is failing at everything in life. Obviously its a comeback story where the protagonist is fighting for something which he used to have. In this case Nani is fighting for a chance in Indian Cricket Team. The movie starts in current time and goes back to flashback, even the flashback has 2 timelines in it and for the starting part of the Act 1, and movie cuts back and forth in those 2 timelines showing us what he used to be in the past when he was young and he had everying he wanted, the girl he liked, the game he was good at, everything. And now he is stuggling financially to even buy a birthday gift for the son that he loves more than anything. He even goes to lowest of his self esteem, when he is found stealing money. But as they say every great story has some bad decision. This was it for him and since he is already at the rock bottem where can he go from there, only towards the rise right? YES and that's what happens here as well. I know the story is very much predictable and you won't be getting any surprises in the story but on the screenplay of the movie does provide you with great emotional moments, moments like husband-wife fighting over something , 2 different levels of father-son relationship, one between Satyaraj - Nani and other one is between Nani and his son. Someone who is very close to his father like me might even say that the Nani and his son's relationship is the one thing which is holding the story emotionally because it was this relationship which casues the confict in the story and forces out protagonist to fight for the things that he should have fought for 10 years ago. So overall it is a really good and emotional comback story of a middle aged man paced really well so you wouldn't loose interest in it and will keep on watching it, you might shed a tear or so while watching the movie.
