Typical modern and 80's cliche ridden movie riffing 70's sci fi and 50's war movies with everyone in conflict with our hero from authority figures, ex lovers (Jennifer Connelly is excellent, how is she ever not) and of course his best mates son. But it's not a spoiler to say all is resolved following 2 finales. Balances the nostalgia for the original in vision and music with modern updated movie tropes but yes it was exhilarating knowing Tom and the other actors were really in the planes. I will give it to Tom & Jerry and director Joseph Kosinski, they know how to make a blockbuster and know how to do it incredibly well.
