4.5. If you are looking for a book that has anything resembling a traditional format, this is probably not the book for you. This novel ultimately uses its narrative to ask questions about the nature of story telling itself. Who is telling the story? How does changing facts change or not change what is true? How does fiction based on real life actually impact the subjects of its narrative? I would have given this book five stars but I think the first section of the book is difficult to read and to get involved in and I think the writer could have achieved the same impact and made the first section easier to read. However, I was glad I kept going and is memorable. It has kept me thinking and given me a new perspective.

Parasite was a brilliant movie. It is resonating deeply with people throughout the world because it shows the growing gap between the rich and the poor. It did not demonize the rich people or make angels of the poor people. However, you could see how the wealthy people are oblivious to the problems of the poorer people and how the poorer people can justify dishonesty and conning rich people to survive. You also see how the poorer people turn on each other instead of helping each other in trying to survive. It is not about who is right or wrong but about the reality that a situation in which such disparity exist between people and their standard of living is unsustainable. Ultimately, in the movie this disparity bubbles to the service and then explodes. Perhaps this should be taken as a warning to us all.
