I just don't think Holliwood can manage 'quirky' or 'whimsical'. It's a very weird take on people outside the mainstream, but still falls into the usual fight for dominance narrative that characterises the storyline of 99% of American films. It was hard to know who to sympathise with. I didn't relate much to anyone. The scene where the teenage boy proposes to a girl because they kissed is ridiculous. I mean...was he supposed to be autistic? So weird. And the last scene of them all gaily dancing around the funeral pyre!!!! It's a gilm that could have been made by artificial intelligence!!! Really, nothing rings true.

What an awful bloody series!!! What is it with the childlike femmes fatale being supposéd seductresses? That character was about as seductive as Dora the Explorer! And the smudge-eyed male protagonist was much more alluring as The Vicar of Dibley's fiancé. There was really nothing erotic about the hackneyed bondage and dominance trope. Talk about trite! One of these days someone might actually think of something original! Really, I only kept watching because I thought smudge-eyes might turn out to be Dora the Explorer's brother! A very shallow portrayal of humankind! And PS...no father, in my experience, would put a characterless woman-child ahead of his son. Fiftyshades of Beige!!!!

I adore this series! I'm an un-fan of formulaic Australian TV (they all have the same plot) and Gold Diggers zings with originality! Australian without the self-conscious cringe, multi-cultural without the po-faced self-righteousness, feminist without hitting you over the head with it...My favourite Australian series EVER! The satiric stuff parodying New Age language and dogma is hilarious and CLEVER! Well done writers, actors....everyone! And the set! I can't stop...
