Before watching the film, I was a huge skeptic. Like many that just watched the theatrical trailer I thought they ruined the voices with Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy. But boy was I proven wrong when I actually watched the film (in "4DX" too with motion and water splashing your face in the cinema). The voice acting was spot on. Chris, Anya, Jack Black and everyone else portrayed the characters perfectly and the film was chock full of Nintendo gaming nostalgia, lore and Easter eggs. It also opens the door for a whole series of sequels and spinoffs as there is a LOT of Nintendo lore to cover. The acting, animation, plot, music and humor - all spot on! Peach was especially a charming character - a strong female character done right.
This is the best cinematic experience I've had in many years, probably since the peak of Marvel's Avengers. Disney take notes - this is how to do an adaptation! Sticking faithfully to the source material and respecting loyal fans.
The only negative thing I could say was that they should fire whoever was in charge of the theatrical trailers. They had such an amazing film to promote and they managed to make the most lack-luster, generic trailers imaginable AND they managed to cause a lot of unnecessary controversy by showing their voices out of context of the film & characterization. *Spoiler alert* What they should have done is have the opening scene with the "Super Mario Bros Plumbing Service" TV Ad as part of the trailers, and that would have saved a lot of people the headaches from debating the voice acting.
