Started off OK as something that pretends to be a genuine thriller with no agenda attached, then towards the end devolves to shameless & cringey virtue signaling. The humor mostly misses the mark with the audience awkwardly laughing at how out of touch it is with real life working people. The "trigger warning" at the start of the film put in there by the film's producers should have been the first warning of it being woke garbage. Overall feel and quality was typical of one of those forgettable direct-to-Netflix releases. Seemed out of place on the big screen.

Very rare to see an actually well made film adaptation nowadays. It stuck true to the soul of the source material and was thrilling and mysterious for a newcomer to the franchise, while plenty of clever Easter eggs for veteran fans. Certainly hope the sequels keep up this momentum.

What a masterpiece. Living proof that big budgets and state of the art technology is not always required for quality entertainment and creativity to flourish.

Simply a masterpiece and one of Robin William's finest works. No idea why it "bombed" in the 90s. Maybe it was too soon for the time. The film could be released today and not appear obsolete in its themes, relevance and effects. Perhaps the "effects" look so good because it uses real costumes and not CGI fakery.

Before watching the film, I was a huge skeptic. Like many that just watched the theatrical trailer I thought they ruined the voices with Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy. But boy was I proven wrong when I actually watched the film (in "4DX" too with motion and water splashing your face in the cinema). The voice acting was spot on. Chris, Anya, Jack Black and everyone else portrayed the characters perfectly and the film was chock full of Nintendo gaming nostalgia, lore and Easter eggs. It also opens the door for a whole series of sequels and spinoffs as there is a LOT of Nintendo lore to cover. The acting, animation, plot, music and humor - all spot on! Peach was especially a charming character - a strong female character done right. This is the best cinematic experience I've had in many years, probably since the peak of Marvel's Avengers. Disney take notes - this is how to do an adaptation! Sticking faithfully to the source material and respecting loyal fans. The only negative thing I could say was that they should fire whoever was in charge of the theatrical trailers. They had such an amazing film to promote and they managed to make the most lack-luster, generic trailers imaginable AND they managed to cause a lot of unnecessary controversy by showing their voices out of context of the film & characterization. *Spoiler alert* What they should have done is have the opening scene with the "Super Mario Bros Plumbing Service" TV Ad as part of the trailers, and that would have saved a lot of people the headaches from debating the voice acting.
