the criticism on this movie sounds like they’re a bunch of people paid to leave bad reviews with no substance.
as someone who prefers watching shows to movies, i found that they fit a lot into two hours: great character development, especially for Blaire. great introduction to Jay and Benny. great insight on how close Benny is to both Jay and Rosa, and how much he’s willing to do for them.
sure, it was dumb to bring them into his grandmother’s house, but we know he’s a relatively introverted college kid; where else would he take the women, other than the one place he’s known his whole life? not to mention, it’s far from Beverly Hills so it’s not like anyone would look for them there, and that’s the kind of location they were looking for, so obviously that was the first that came to his mind. people also skim over the fact that Benny was under the impression that his grandmother would be working her night shift and not be home yet.
the action didn’t have much buildup because it didn’t need it. the movie’s meant to be fast-paced, and it was. the camerawork matched the pace and it didn’t feel like we, as the audience, were being left out on the events. the music always matched up with the environment, whether it was playing in a club, in a car, or just as a background addition to the ambience.
everyone’s “i’d give it 0 stars if i could” mentioned that Benny was a stupid character who gave up on his family to hang out with Debby Ryan (but to be fair, who wouldn’t?). they either didn’t watch the whole movie before reviewing (why leave a review if you didn’t even watch the movie? hello?) or they seem to forget that he went into the home of the most powerful vampire, who took out the rest of the gang leaders three-handedly, to (successfully) save his brother.
yes, some things didn’t “make sense,” like why were these two women in particular able to take out so many men and walk away without a scratch (most of the time)? but that’s only because we didn’t have the insight on it. i think this story would’ve made a great show rather than a movie if there were a few timeline adjustments, but that’s just me.
not every movie has to have a “theme” or something to take to heart and apply to your life. some movies are just meant as entertainment, and there’s nothing about this that wasn’t entertaining. it held my attention for an hour and 47 minutes: even the credits.
