If you were to buy one album, I would recommend this one or Elementary Doc Watson. I have almost 20LPs from over the years and I always go back to the stuff he and Merle put out back then. This is a GREAT album.

This was the first album I listened to Doc Watson. I was just speechless after listening to both sides of the LP. There was a bluegrass radio show back in the 60's and Doc would be featured now and then. When I moved to NC years later I found Doc was from NC and still playing with his son. The rest is widely published so I don't have to tell you how incredible he is as a muscian and as a person. For anybody playing guitar back then Doc was in a league all his own. The guy was just incredible.

In my view this is the best Doc and Merle album on record. I love this album. I love the Ballads from Deep Gap but I made up my mind: this is the Mother Lode. If you buy one album by Doc, get this one.
