"When I started writing this novel, I worried that my white supremacist characters were too extreme. Then 2016 happened, and I worried they weren’t extreme enough." Steiger, Shawne.
The story deals with how bigotry , of all sorts , can cloud peoples thoughts , mould them into the people they are and affect not only their lives but the lives of people around them.
When The protagonist of the story has a swastika painted on her door, she goes back to her home town where the present collides with the past. Through the eyes of three generations of two families, their past gradually is revealed and the skeletons tumble out of their respective closets. Things people knew as facts may not have been, and these "facts" shaped who these people became.
The book started a bit slowly as we get to know the characters but once it is in full swing , I couldn't put it down.
The writing is so good that I felt that I knew the people in the book.
One word of warning , the book does contain adult themes.
