Although I have seen both Bridgerton seasons and thoroughly enjoyed both, I had no expectations for this particular series since l’d never heard of it or its development. In short, I loved it. Be it the characters, the storyline, the acting, the costumes, the sets, the desire to continue to push boundaries, the chemistry between characters, etc.
I could see the mature versions of each character in their younger counterpart. The subtle nuances in facial expressions and body language spoke volumes. The Queen mother was particularly well written and played. Discovering and uncovering the life history of Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury, the King and Violet was heartbreaking, maddening and just plain fun. I also loved how the show went back and forward in time seamlessly. I found myself tearing on multiple occasions… some scenes were so touching.
I recommend this to any fan of the Bridgerton universe created in the different series.
Now, if one is looking for a true to facts depiction of historical events without biases than this may not be for you. I believe it was never created or meant to be.
It also may not be for you, if you are a bigot, homophobe, racist, chauvinist or a prude.
Just know you’ll see depictions of:
a) strong women taking charge in many situations;
b) sexual scenes between consenting adults;
c) numb sex from a woman’s viewpoint (those were uncomfortable to see and internalize for me);
d) torture as mental health treatment (those were very difficult for me);
e) witnessing people of color discuss and maneuver around and through challenges and discrimination;
f) a reimagining of historically based events and period explored and produced by modern, non-conforming creators;
g) love and friendship in general and/or in particular;
h) flawed individuals struggling through life;
i) I could go on and on but alas…
Life is short. So, I focus on how I can bring joy to my loved ones and hope to keep an open mind.
I hope you enjoy the episodes as much as I did. It was over and done to quickly.
