I personally loved this movie. I enjoyed the storyline, however, I would have liked to know more about Cole's back story outside of the obvious in what we got when we were first introduced to his character and what was disclosed at the end. I felt there were foreshadowing opportunities that could have helped connect us with him and his family - and the Lord Raiden scene (involving Cole's struggles (akana) and departure) fell a little flat? I thought he left so he could try to protect his family?? (for those who watched the movie you know what I'm talking about) Anyway, the storyline as a whole was an interesting twist that I enjoyed. It definitely set up for a plethora of MK movies to come down the road so I appreciated that.
Oh...and although Lord Raiden has always been my favorite character of all time (and he was always my favorite MK arcade video game choice in the 80's...who could stop the teleport and lightning?! lol) Kung Lao was my favorite character in this movie. HIS INTRO WAS EPIC and Nostalgic all at the same time!! What he does with his hat in the movie was pure perfection. And Mileena, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero get honorable mentions as well... The actors playing them were created for those roles!!
All in all, for a 1hr 50 min movie I was entertained from beginning to end... However, if you're looking for an expansive story plot for each character you're not going to get it. It almost feels as if the creators of this movie may have shot a bunch of scenes that got left on the cutting room floor because of time constraints and budget...but I got just enough to give this movie a passing grade. Outside of Cole (the new character), the creators did a great job paying respect to the original characters and gave us a little extra something for entertainment purposes to help with our love for the franchise.
