I love reading about history but this book tries way too hard to shoe-in jokes and references to things relevant at the time of publication, which will be wildly out of date in the next decade and will likely provide future readers with many an eye roll.
It wants to be 'cute' and 'witty' in almost every sentence or paragraph and it puts the reading experience in parallel with hearing a cringeworthy best man wedding speech.
Haven't listened to the podcast but I could imagine that "The Rest is History" would be better experienced as an audio podcast instead of a print book.
Some interesting historical trivia can be gleaned if you're willing to slog through the tired dad jokes and references to uk politics and Netflix shows, however it really lacks the depth I was looking for.
