I couldn’t finish it, as it read more like a political screed than a work of fiction. I’m a huge fan of Stephen King and I don’t care what his political beliefs are, however, if he really felt compelled to criticize a large swath of people that have a different perspective than his, perhaps some subtlety might have been more effective. This book was about a subtle as a sledgehammer and I felt his disdain for a particular a group of people overshadowed what I would normally find in his books - attributes such as excellent character development, a tight storyline and engaging prose. Typically, when I read his books, I’m taken to an imaginary place where I get lost in the narrative and terrified by the circumstances but instead, this book felt judgemental and its overt political message was distracting.
