They took some of the unique mechanics from previous games and removed them. Not only does this make the game play better, it gives you the option to really explore and enjoy your experience.
Willamette Mall is extensively detailed. As is the surrounding burrows. You really get a feel to each area. And can freely explore previous areas to complete quests and collectables without time constraints.
The environments are open to all play styles. Sneak above, power through, heavy weapon, or grab a vehicle and hit the gas. The map is also clear and easy to navigate. And returning to a previous area doesn't mean the same experience.
New side quests open up, enemies change. Previously overflowing enemy areas can be eerily quiet. And revisiting an area at night compared to day time really offers a new feel.
So much detail was put into the collectables, mysteries, newspapers, cells phones, and podcasts. You will want to collect them all. Survivors no longer need their hand held. And can make it to a safe house solo. So saving them and upgrading safe houses is a pleasant experience.
The Maniacs are challenging and unique to the area they are in. And there is so many nooks and crannies to discover around the map.
The leveling system has been expanded and there are some interesting options based on your play style. Customize up to level 100.
The story and characters are both fresh and interesting. And revisiting chapters with new knowledge and understanding, really offers you an edge.
