Sadly, this movie has absolutely nothing going for it. A worn and tired Nicholas Cage fails to prop up a carelessly thrown together plot that cannot decide whether it's a post-apocalyptic horror (featuring laughably clichéd monsters), a tale of budding young love (woefully unconvincing), a coming-of-age fiasco, or a frontier saga gone horribly wrong.
There are any number of truly awful moments of banality in the flick, but the post-slaughter graveside scene, where Charlotte pays a tritely tearful tribute to her unworthy parents is the icing on this cringe-cake. And don't forget the cherry on top - the ridiculous closing shot of the three young heroes driving off into the sunset.
The true horror of this movie must be its utter disrespect for any viewer with even a smidgeon of intelligence.
