Let me begin by saying I am a huge fan of Moyes and I think I've read every one of her books. Sadly this was a big disappointment. Mark Twain said, "Write what you know". Moyes proved a bit out of her element in Kentucky. The dialogue was giving me fits. Alice should've stuck to her own brand of English throughout the book. It seemed as though she was speaking more like locals as time went on and the entire book took place in a short timespan. As for the locals, the same character would at times speak proper English and at others a more bastardized version. One of my pet peeves is typographical errors. On page 376, Alice "sat down on his good settle" not sette. This is why spell check is a bad thing. There is no substitute for a good pair of human eyes. Finally, the ending was truly corny. I have no problem with a happy ending but this one was over the top. I hope Jojo Moyes' next one is much better.
