Disappointing show. The whole point about searching for Mexico is to tell the peoples’ of Mexico stories. It totally misses the point.
In this show, Eva Longoria does not review many foods that people in Mexico traditionally eat. Instead, she goes to Mexico and reviews foods from resorts or restaurants that are more European in form and style rather than Mexican.
This show acts like it’s a surprise that tasty and yummy food would be found in Mexico. Which is an insult. The whole point isn’t that great foods exist in Mexico. It’s to showcase how people have transformed their food. How their struggle has shaped their foods. And yet despite their struggles they have developed an exquisite cuisine.
The whole point of the show is to see how peoples culture, traditions, and past history have shaped their food. This show instead just reviews resort like foods. Anyone can eat good food anywhere in the word. That is not a surprise. We want to see and hear from the people. We want to hear their stories.
There’s wonderful street food and vendors in Mexico as well. So disappointing so many traditional foods are not showcased, and only Chef inspired Mexican European fusion dishes in touristy areas are reviewed.
Also, Eva Longoria does not try to talk to the people and see how their dishes came into creation. She’s more into herself than other people. In addition, it appears that she really lacks knowledge of the Mexican cuisine.
I understand Eva Longoria’s safety was a concern, which may be why production decided to scrap including any “normal” everyday people
In this series. Which is an insult again to someone that loves Mexico.
Perhaps the best decision would have been to just forget about searching for Mexico, because this series has not yet come close to finding Mexico.
Very disappointing.
