I’m really enjoying Carnival Row. The storyline echos the racism & divided citizenships that trouble us today, and seems current even though the show is set in quasi-Victorian Times. The Fae are an ancient, proud race being hunted by The Pact. The Burgue are allies of the Fae. The entire, amazing Steampunk World is something I haven’t seen on tv yet, & the sets & costumes are magnificent. (Those gorgeous wings!) The central relationship is between Vignette - a tough Fae warrior woman, & Philo - a Burgish police sergeant & former Burgish soldier- who met during the war, which they lost. For 7 years, Vignette thought Philo had been killed during the war. She finds him, tries to stab him for abandoning her long ago. They clearly still love each other. Ah, & Philo has a secret that only Vignette knows. Meanwhile, a dark evil lurks beneath the city of Burgue...
If you love fantasy, romance, wonderful fantastic creatures ( referred to as “Critches” by those who hate/fear them) and amazing world building, watch this show! I’ve never been a big van of Orlando Bloom (Philo) or Cara Delavigne (Vignette) but both are perfectly cast here. The acting is excellent. Good job, Amazon Prime!
